THE PROBLEM

Your identity shouldn't live on paper.

Most people and organizations manage identity in fragments: a box of business cards, a separate ID printing vendor, a badge template rebuilt for every event, and a free QR generator that nobody remembers logging into. Each piece works on its own. Together, they create outdated information and inconsistent branding.

CardDeck brings these pieces into one system. You design a card once, connect it to a QR code and a profile, and keep it current — for one person or for an entire organization.

  • 01

    Paper cards get lost

Most printed cards are kept for a while, then thrown away. Your details leave with them.

  • 02

    Details go out of date

A new title, number or email means a reprint — or handing out cards you know are wrong.

  • 03

    Every employee needs an ID

Printed staff IDs mean vendors, lead times and no easy way to revoke a card.

  • 04

    Badges are rebuilt every event

Each conference starts from a blank template, a spreadsheet and a late-night print run.

  • 05

    Brands drift across teams

Ten offices, ten card designs. Consistency is hard without one shared template.

  • 06

    QR tools solve one sliver

A QR generator makes a code. It doesn't manage the card, profile or team behind it.

OVERVIEW

What is CardDeck?

CardDeck is a digital identity and card management platform. It lets individuals and organizations create professional digital cards, connect them to QR codes, publish shareable profiles, and manage cards for whole teams from one dashboard.

A card in CardDeck is more than an image. Each one is a live record — a name, a role, an organization, contact details, links and a verification code — that can be rendered as a digital business card, printed as an employee ID card, worn as an event badge or opened as a digital profile page. When the record changes, every format that uses it stays in sync.

For individuals, that means a single professional identity you can share by QR code, link, email or tap — and update whenever your job, number or portfolio changes. Freelancers, founders, consultants and salespeople use it to replace paper cards and make contact saving one step instead of five.

For businesses, CardDeck works as a central place to issue and maintain cards for every employee. Admins set the brand template once; team members fill in their details; HR can issue ID cards with QR verification and deactivate them when someone leaves.

For schools, colleges, events and communities, CardDeck turns a spreadsheet of names into a batch of consistent student IDs, attendee badges or membership cards — each with its own QR code, ready to print or share digitally.

DIGITAL BUSINESS CARDS

Your business card, without the paper.

What is a digital business card?

A digital business card is an online version of a traditional business card. It holds your contact details, links and photo on a mobile-friendly page that anyone can open by scanning a QR code or tapping a link — and save to their phone contacts in one step, no app required.

  • Profile photo
  • Name
  • Job title
  • Company
  • Phone
  • Email
  • Website
  • Social profiles
  • Location
  • Call-to-action buttons
  • QR code
  • Save to contacts (vCard)
  • Shareable profile URL

Paper cards end up in drawers, and the people who keep them rarely type your details in. A digital card skips that step: the contact lands in their phone with your photo, title and links attached. It's useful anywhere you meet people — networking events, sales meetings, client visits, interviews, conferences — and for anyone whose details change faster than a print run: founders, freelancers, consultants, recruiters and growing teams.

QR CODES

Turn any card into a scan.

Every CardDeck card has a QR code. Point a phone camera at it and the card opens in the browser — no app, no typing. Use it on screen at a meeting, print it on the back of a paper card, add it to a name badge, a shop counter, a property sign or the last slide of a talk.

Dynamic

Static vs dynamic QR codes

QR→carddeck.co/aisha→Current card · editable1,284 scans · sample

A dynamic QR code stores a short link that redirects to a destination you control. Change your title, number or even the whole page, and the same printed code still opens the latest version. Dynamic codes also show how often they're scanned — useful for seeing which events, flyers or signs actually get used.

BARCODE GENERATOR

Barcodes, built into every card.

Some systems read QR codes; many still read barcodes. CardDeck generates both. Put an employee number on an ID for your access-control reader, a member number on a loyalty card, a ticket code on an event badge, or a product code on a label — then download it as a crisp SVG for print.

What's the difference between a barcode and a QR code?

A barcode stores a short line of data in one dimension and is read by laser and handheld scanners found at counters, libraries and gates. A QR code stores much more in two dimensions and is read by phone cameras. Use a barcode when an existing scanner needs to read a number; use a QR code when people need to open a card or link.

  • Code 128Letters, numbers and symbols — employee IDs, asset tags, tickets, shipping labels.
  • EAN-1313-digit retail product codes, with the check digit calculated for you.

EMPLOYEE ID CARDS

Professional IDs for every member of your team.

How can companies create employee ID cards?

Choose an ID template, add your logo and brand colors, then import employees from a spreadsheet or invite them to upload their own photo. CardDeck generates an ID for each person with their department, employee number, validity date and a QR code that opens a verification page. Print on standard PVC or card stock, or let staff carry the ID on their phone.

QR verification

Scanning an ID opens a page that shows whether the card is active. Deactivate an ID and the page updates immediately.

Company branding

One locked template per company or office, so every ID matches — no matter who creates it.

Employee profiles

The same record can power an employee's business card and internal profile, so details stay identical across all three.

STUDENT ID CARDS

Digital identity for schools and students.

How can schools create student ID cards?

Upload your student list as a spreadsheet, pick a template with your crest and colors, and map the columns — name, class, section, roll number, admission number, academic year. CardDeck generates every ID in the batch, each with a QR code for verification, ready to print or share digitally with families.

  • Institution brandingLogo, crest, colors and signatory on every card.
  • Batch & class infoFields you define: class, section, programme, year, house.
  • QR identificationScan to confirm a student's card is current.
  • Card managementReissue lost cards; roll the whole batch to next year.

CardDeck focuses on identity cards and student profiles. It isn't a school management system — it works alongside the attendance, fee and records tools your institution already uses.

EVENTS & BADGES

Create event badges in minutes.

Import your registration list, assign each person a role — attendee, speaker, sponsor, staff, press or visitor — and CardDeck generates a badge for everyone on the same design. Each badge carries a QR code that can be used for check-in with compatible scanners and doubles as a networking card, so attendees can swap details with a scan instead of a business card.

TEAM MANAGEMENT

One brand. Every card.

How can teams manage digital business cards?

An admin sets up the company workspace, uploads the brand template and invites members — or imports them in bulk. Members fill in their own details within the fields the admin allows. Everything lives in one dashboard: who has which card, which cards are active, and how often they're opened.

SHARING

Share it your way.

How can businesses share contact information without paper cards?

Give each person a digital card with a permanent link and QR code. The same card can then be shared any way the moment calls for — scanned in person, sent in a message, embedded in an email signature or tapped from an NFC tag — and it always shows the latest details.

USE CASES

Built for the way people identify and connect.

The same platform serves a solo consultant and a 2,000-person company. Here's how different people use it.

INDIVIDUALS

For Freelancers

Freelancers win work through referrals and quick conversations, so the hand-off after "what do you do?" matters. A CardDeck profile puts your services, portfolio links, rates page and booking link behind one QR code. Clients save your contact in a tap and can forward your card to a colleague without screenshots. When you add a new service or change your rate card, the link you shared last year still shows the current version.

Digital business cards for freelancers →

For Founders

Founders meet investors, hires, partners and customers in the same week, often at the same event. Instead of carrying different cards, keep one profile with your company, role, deck link and calendar. When you raise, rebrand or change your title, update it once. A dynamic QR code also shows roughly how many people opened your card after a demo day, which helps you follow up while the conversation is still fresh.

Shareable founder profiles →

For Consultants

Consulting runs on trust and a clear specialism. Your card can lead with the problem you solve, then show case studies, certifications and a link to book a discovery call. Because the card is digital, you can keep a slightly different version for each practice area or client sector — each with its own QR code — without printing anything new.

Consultant business cards →

For Real Estate Professionals

Agents hand out details on signboards, flyers, open-house sheets and in person. Put a QR code on each listing that opens your card with your phone number, WhatsApp, current listings and reviews link. If you move brokerages or change numbers, the printed codes keep working because they point to your dynamic link, not to fixed text.

QR codes for real estate →

For Recruiters

Recruiters talk to hundreds of candidates at job fairs and campus drives. A digital card lets candidates save your details, see open roles and apply from the same page. You can share a team-branded card that matches your employer brand, and swap the featured roles each week without changing the code on your booth banner.

Recruiter digital cards →

BUSINESSES

For Sales Teams

Sales reps share contact details dozens of times a week, in meetings, on calls and at trade shows. With CardDeck, every rep gets a card on the company template with their own photo, territory and booking link. Managers see which cards are being opened. When a rep changes territory or leaves, admins reassign or deactivate their card in seconds, so prospects are never left with a dead number.

Digital business cards for sales teams →

For Small Businesses

A small business might have five people and three locations, with a shop counter, delivery vans and a website that all need contact details. Use CardDeck for staff business cards, a QR code for the counter that opens your opening hours and reviews page, and simple ID cards for employees. It replaces several small tools with one subscription and one brand template.

CardDeck features for small businesses →

For Enterprises

Large companies need consistency and control more than features. CardDeck lets brand teams lock templates, HR issue employee IDs with QR verification, and IT manage access centrally. Departments can own their own card sets while still following the master design. Bulk import from a spreadsheet means a new office of 300 people can have cards and IDs ready on day one.

Company digital business cards →

ORGANIZATIONS

For Schools

Schools issue student IDs every academic year and need them to be clear, consistent and quick to produce. Import a class list, choose a template with the school crest, and generate IDs with class, section, roll number and a QR code for verification. CardDeck handles the ID cards themselves; it works alongside your existing student information system rather than replacing it.

Student ID card maker for schools →

For Colleges

Colleges juggle student IDs, faculty IDs, library access and visiting lecturer passes. CardDeck lets each department issue the right card type from a shared brand template. Students can carry a digital copy on their phone, and administrators can reissue a lost card without starting from scratch. Batch details such as programme, year and validity date are fields you define.

College ID cards →

For Events

Event teams need badges for attendees, speakers, sponsors, staff and press — often with last-minute changes. Import registrations, assign roles, and print or send badges with QR codes that can be scanned at the door with a compatible check-in tool. After the event, attendees can keep the digital badge as a networking card that links to their own profile.

Event badge maker →

For Membership Organizations

Clubs, associations and professional bodies issue cards that show who is a member, which tier they hold and when they renew. CardDeck membership cards carry the tier, member number and expiry date, and the QR code can confirm whether a card is current. Renewals update the same card, so members never need a replacement in the post.

Digital membership cards →

For Communities

Meetups, alumni networks and online communities grow through introductions. Give every member a simple profile card in the community's style, so people can share who they are and what they work on at gatherings. Organizers get a directory of member cards; members get a professional profile they can use beyond the community.

Paper cards vs digital cards

How do digital cards differ from traditional business cards?

A paper card is fixed once printed. A digital card is a live page you can edit, share remotely and track — and a QR business card is the bridge, a printed card that opens the digital one.

More than a digital business card.

Most tools do one thing: make a card, generate a code or print a badge. CardDeck treats them as views of the same identity, so one person, one record and one brand power every format they need.

IN DEPTH
CardDeck in short

A digital business card platform is software for creating, sharing and managing digital business cards and the codes that open them. CardDeck adds QR codes, barcodes, ID cards, event badges and batch generation from a spreadsheet, and saves the people who scan your card as contacts you can tag and export.

  • One record per person powers their business card, ID, badge and profile.
  • Cards open in any phone browser — no app needed on either side.
  • Use dynamic QR codes for anything printed; static codes for fixed data.
  • Generate hundreds of cards or codes at once from CSV or Excel.
  • Every scan can become a saved, tagged contact.
  • Start free with one card; upgrade only when you need more.

What is a digital business card platform?

A digital business card platform is a single place to create a professional card, publish it at a permanent link, connect it to a QR code and keep it current. The card is a mobile-friendly page with your name, title, company, contact buttons and links, plus a button that saves you to the other person's phone as a vCard.

Most tools stop there. A full platform also handles what happens around the card:

  • Codes — a QR code that opens the card, and barcodes for systems that still use laser scanners.
  • Other card types — employee IDs, student IDs, event badges and membership cards built from the same details.
  • Volume — generating cards for a whole team, class or attendee list from one spreadsheet.
  • Follow-up — capturing the details of people who open your card so the conversation doesn't end at "nice to meet you".
  • Control — templates, permissions and deactivation for organizations.

CardDeck is built as that kind of platform. You can use one piece — a single digital business card, say — and add the rest only when you need it.

Who is CardDeck for?

CardDeck is for anyone who hands out contact details or identity cards, from one person to a few thousand. The same editor, QR system and sharing tools serve all three groups below; what changes is how many cards you manage and who controls the design.

Individuals

Freelancers, founders, consultants, real estate agents and recruiters usually need one great card, a QR code to print on signs or slides, and a way to know who they met. The Free and Pro plans cover this: a card you edit yourself, dynamic QR codes and a contact list.

Businesses

Sales teams, small businesses and larger companies need every employee on the same brand, cards that can be switched off when someone leaves, and a dashboard that shows which cards get used. Team business cards add locked templates, an admin view and employee ID cards.

Organizations

Schools, colleges, event organizers, clubs and communities issue cards in batches — a class list in August, a registration export the week before a conference. They mostly need the batch generator, print-ready exports and QR verification. CardDeck handles the cards themselves; it works alongside your existing school management, ticketing or membership system rather than replacing it.

How do cards, QR codes, IDs and contacts fit together?

In CardDeck every card starts from a record: a person's name, role, organization, photo, contact details, links and an identifier such as an employee or member number. That record can then be rendered in more than one format.

  • Digital business card — the public, mobile page people open and save.
  • Employee or student ID — a printable CR80 card (85.6 × 54 mm) with photo, number, validity date and a QR code that opens a verification page.
  • Event badge — a role-labelled badge with a check-in QR code that also works as a networking card.
  • Digital profile — a longer public page with work, links and a booking calendar.

The QR code is the bridge between paper and the live record. Print it on a business card, badge, sign or slide; when someone scans it, their phone opens the current version of the card in the browser. Barcodes do the same job for older scanners: a Code 128 employee number on an ID can be read by an access-control reader, while an EAN-13 code identifies a retail product.

Contacts close the loop. When someone opens your card they can share their details back through a short form. CardDeck stores each contact with its source — which card, badge or QR code brought them in — so you can tag them, add notes and export them. That is the difference between a card that gets looked at and a card that produces follow-ups. See contact management for how capture and export work.

Because everything shares one record, a change happens once. Update a job title and the business card, profile and next ID print all use the new title.

Should you use a static or a dynamic QR code?

Use a dynamic QR code for anything you print and expect to keep using; use a static QR code when the data will never change. The difference is where the information lives.

A static QR code stores the data inside the pattern — a URL, a block of text, a WiFi login or a vCard contact. It works offline and never expires, but it cannot be edited. If your phone number changes, you need a new code and a reprint. Static codes are unlimited on every CardDeck plan.

A dynamic QR code stores a short link that redirects to a destination you control. Change your card, swap the destination for a new page, or fix a typo, and the printed code keeps working. Dynamic codes also count scans, so you can see whether a flyer, a booth banner or a property sign is actually being used.

A simple rule:

  1. Is the code going on something printed in volume, or something you can't easily replace (signage, packaging, ID cards)? Use dynamic.
  2. Do you need to know how many people scanned it? Use dynamic.
  3. Is it a one-off, like a WiFi login on a meeting room wall or a link that will never move? Static is fine.

Whichever you choose, print the code at least 2 × 2 cm for close-range scanning and scale it up with distance — roughly one-tenth of the distance the code will be read from. Keep dark modules on a light background and leave a clear margin around the code. The QR code generator handles sizing and export in SVG or PNG.

What should you put on a digital business card?

Put the details people need to contact you and the one or two links that move a conversation forward. More fields rarely help; the best cards are scannable in a few seconds.

  • Essentials: photo, name, job title, company, phone and email.
  • Links: website and LinkedIn first, then a portfolio, listings page or product page if it matters for your work.
  • One call to action: "Book a call", "See current listings" or "View our menu" — a button with a clear next step.
  • Save contact: always on. It downloads a vCard so your details land in the other person's phone contacts with your photo and title.

Avoid information that changes weekly unless it sits behind a link you control. If you have several roles — a day job and a side practice, or two client sectors — make a separate card for each rather than cramming both into one.

How do you get started with CardDeck?

You can publish your first card in a few minutes on the Free plan, with no credit card. The path depends on whether you're setting up a card for yourself or for a group.

For yourself

  1. Create an account and pick a template.
  2. Add your photo, details and links, and choose which fields to show.
  3. Publish. Your card gets a permanent link (for example carddeck.co/yourname) and a QR code.
  4. Share it: show the QR code on your phone, add the link to your email signature and social bios, or print the code on a paper card.

For a team, school or event

  1. Set up a workspace and build a template with your logo, colors and fixed fields.
  2. Prepare a spreadsheet with one row per person, saved as CSV (UTF-8) or XLSX.
  3. Upload it to the batch generator, map columns to fields and fix any flagged rows — a missing photo or a duplicate ID number.
  4. Issue cards digitally or export a print-ready PDF.

When you outgrow Free — more cards, more dynamic QR codes, bigger batches, locked templates — compare plans on the pricing page. The step-by-step version of all this is on how CardDeck works.

Create your Card

What is CardDeck?

CardDeck is a platform for creating, sharing and managing digital identity cards. You can build digital business cards, QR codes, employee and student ID cards, event badges, membership cards and shareable profiles from one account. Individuals use it to replace paper business cards; businesses, schools and event teams use it to issue consistent, branded cards to many people and keep them up to date.

What is a digital business card?

A digital business card is an online, mobile-friendly version of a paper business card. It shows your name, title, company, contact details and links, and includes a button to save your contact to a phone. You share it with a QR code, a link, a message or a tap, and you can edit it at any time without reprinting.

How does a QR business card work?

A QR business card has a QR code that opens your digital card when someone points a phone camera at it. With CardDeck, the code links to your profile page, where the person can call, email, visit your links or save your contact. If you use a dynamic QR code, you can change the details behind it later and the same printed code keeps working.

Can I create barcodes with CardDeck?

Yes. The built-in barcode generator creates Code 128 barcodes for text and ID numbers, and EAN-13 barcodes for retail products, with the check digit calculated automatically. Download a barcode as an SVG for print, or add it to an employee ID, student ID, membership card or event badge so it can be read by the scanners and access systems you already use.

Can I create employee ID cards?

Yes. CardDeck includes employee ID templates with fields for photo, name, department, employee number, validity date and a QR code for verification. Admins can create IDs individually or import a spreadsheet to generate them in bulk. IDs can be printed on standard card stock or carried digitally on a phone, and they can be deactivated when someone leaves.

Can I create student ID cards?

Yes. Schools and colleges can create student ID cards with the institution's logo and colors, plus fields such as class, section, roll number, programme and academic year. Import a student list to generate a full batch at once. CardDeck focuses on ID cards and profiles; it is designed to work alongside your existing school management or student information system.

Can I create event badges?

Yes. You can design badges for attendees, speakers, sponsors, staff, press and visitors, each with its own role label and QR code. Import your registration list to create every badge at once, then print them or send them digitally. Attendees can also use their badge as a networking card during the event.

Can I update my card after sharing it?

Yes. Your card lives at a permanent link, so any change you make — a new phone number, title, photo or link — appears the next time someone opens it. If you share with a dynamic QR code, the printed code keeps pointing to your current card, so you don't need to reprint anything when your details change.

What is a dynamic QR code?

A dynamic QR code contains a short link instead of fixed data. When scanned, the link redirects to a destination you control, such as your CardDeck profile. Because the destination can be changed at any time, the code never needs reprinting, and you can see basic scan statistics. A static QR code, by contrast, stores fixed information that cannot be changed after it is created.

Can teams use CardDeck?

Yes. Team workspaces let an organization create shared templates, invite members, assign card types and manage everyone's cards from one dashboard. Admins can control which fields members can edit, review usage across the team and deactivate cards when people change roles or leave. It works for small teams and larger organizations alike.

Can I create cards for multiple employees?

Yes. You can invite employees to complete their own cards, or upload a CSV or spreadsheet with names, titles, departments and contact details to generate cards in bulk. Each employee gets a card on the company template with their own link and QR code. You can update the template later and changes apply to every card that uses it.

Can I use CardDeck instead of a paper business card?

Yes. Many people use a CardDeck digital card as their main business card, shared by QR code or link. Some still like a small print run for formal settings — in that case, add your CardDeck QR code to the paper card so people can save your full, current details from it.

How does CardDeck work?

CardDeck works in three steps. First, create your card by choosing a template and adding your details. Second, publish it to generate your profile link and QR code. Third, share it by QR code, link, message, email, social bio or NFC tag where supported. You can edit the card at any time, and changes appear wherever it has been shared.
